Suns’ Kevin Durant Seemingly Takes Shot At Coach Frank Vogel
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

The Phoenix Suns are currently resembling a failed experiment more than ever. Entering the season, significant concerns loomed over the team, and as the season progressed, those concerns only intensified.

Initially, it appeared that they had bolstered their depth through free agency, assembling a roster filled with versatile defenders and proficient shooters.

However, their absence of a traditional point guard and the susceptibility of their stars to injuries emerged as major obstacles, hindering their performance throughout the year.

Now, with a daunting 0-3 deficit against the formidable Minnesota Timberwolves, the Suns are on the brink of elimination. Kevin Durant’s recent remarks on leadership—or the lack thereof—might offer insight into their current predicament.

When questioned about the team’s leader, Durant pointed to Frank Vogel, indicating that while players vocalize on the court, Vogel ultimately assumes the leadership role.

While this underscores a clear chain of command and respect for Coach Vogel, championship-caliber teams also require on-court leadership.

Though Chris Paul, while past his prime and commanding a hefty salary, provided such leadership in Phoenix, Bradley Beal’s inconsistent performances and frequent absences have led to questions about his value to the team.

Furthermore, Kevin Durant and Devin Booker have yet to assert themselves as vocal leaders, raising doubts about the team’s prospects with its current roster composition.

Regrettably, the Suns may find themselves with little recourse moving forward. It also seems like there may be a bit of finger pointing going on in Phoenix. Frank Vogel is catching a lot of heat for his team’s struggles.
