5-star updates plus more Nebraska football recruiting news

Nebraska football has hosted a pair of five-star recruits in the past month and the Huskers seemed to make a positive impact on both during their visit.

Michael Terry, a five-star wide receiver/athlete, visited during the Nebraska football spring game. He was blown away by the visit and talked about it in a video in which he said Matt Rhule, “Isn’t playing fair.”

That’s how good the visit went. Texas and Texas A&M figure to be the top competition for the 6-foot-3, 210-pound athlete ranked 28th overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Nebraska is doing everything it can to land Terry though, which includes sending a bunch of assistant coaches to visit him on Thursday (Matt Rhule isn’t allowed to visit recruits right now).

The visit seemed well received. Texas A&M and Oregon have official visits scheduled, plus you never know how NIL will factor in, but the Huskers are right there with Terry.

However, they have work to do with five-star offensive tackle David Sanders.

David Sanders says Clemson, Ohio State lead

The No. 2 ranked player in the 2025 recruiting class visited Nebraska football last weekend. It seemed like that visit went really well too. Sanders took his family and they were “blown away” by Nebraska.

However, it’s hard to know if the visit really moved the needle in the recruitment. On Wednesday, recruiting expert Tom Loy of 247 Sports said if he was forced to put in a prediction right now, it would be between Clemson and Ohio State.

Sanders is also visiting Georgia this weekend, so the Bulldogs are also a threat to land the No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2025 class who is 6-foot-6, 270 pounds.

The Huskers have to get him back on campus, probably a couple more times to be a serious threat. They did make progress and are a contender, but they are far from being the favorite.

Other Nebraska football recruiting news

Another top-100 recruit, Dawson Merritt, who visited Nebraska football during the spring game, said his decision would come down to Alabama or Nebraska.

Merritt would be an ideal player for the 3-3-5. He’s a stand-up EDGE but could also play more of a traditional outside linebacker role at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds.

Merritt could be the perfect JACK in the future and while it will be tough to beat Alabama, it’s good to see the Huskers in the mix with another elite recruit, this time on defense.

Last but not least, Jaylen Williams, a 6-foot-6, 265-pound defensive lineman has scheduled an official visit to Nebraska according to Steve Wiltfong. Tennesee and Miami will also get official visits, plus he’ll make a visit to Texas A&M too. Michigan is another contender but getting Williams back on campus is a great sign.

The Huskers need to land another impact defensive lineman in the 2025 class and Williams would be a great player to pair with in-state standout Tyson Terry.
